New-Surplus and Used Cisco ASA 5500 Series
The Adaptive Security Appliance 5500 series is Cisco's next generation Firewall and VPN solution with significant advantages over the PIX series, namely:
- Greater performance (high firewall and VPN throughput)
- Support for SSL VPNs
- All Cisco Security ASA 5500s are 1RU in height, unlike the PIX-525 which were 2 and 3 RU
- Improved interface port density and flexibility (both VLANs and physical interfaces through license upgrades or addition of an SSM-4GE module)
- Failover option supported through an optional license upgrade in the ASA5505 (stateless, active/standby) and ASA5510 (stateful, active/standby or active/active + clustering capable)
- Failover is natively supported on the ASA5520, ASA5540 and ASA5550
One of the best Cisco security products, the ASA5505 supports the addition of a modular IPS module for integrated IPS functionality, while the ASA5510, ASA5520, ASA5540 support either an additional 4-port 10/100/1000 copper or SFP module, a IPS or Content filtering module. The ASA5550 comes with one fixed-configuration 4GE interface module for higher density deployments.
